Women's Health and Menopause

Menopause is going to happen to women whether they like it or not as long as they live long enough. Just like puberty, menopause is a major change in your life and changes you from a reproductive woman to a no reproductive woman. Menopause affects women's health a great deal when they go through it. Some women may not have any of the unpleasant symptoms of menopause when others may be suffering day in and day out. If you do happen to be one of the unlucky ones it is very important to understand what is happening and what can be done to relieve successfully.

Estrogen-replacement therapy (ERT) has been known to be safe and very effective for relieving the symptoms of menopause and it is also a lifesaver in women's health today. Some of the symptoms of menopause are hot flashes, cold chills, night sweats, increased perspiration, breast size reduction, skin wrinkling or thinning, vaginal dryness, burning, or itching, painful intercourse, bladder dysfunction, increased bladder infections, depression, fatigue, insomnia, irritability, and mood changes just to name a few. All of these symptoms can be slowed by ERT.

Around the age of 45 some women start showing signs of per menopausal symptoms. Their periods become shorter or irregular and they experience hot flashes. This usually last from around age 45 until about the age of 55 when women will no longer have their periods. Some women go through deep depressions and this can really endanger women's health. They tend to feel that since they are no longer reproductive being that they are also no longer productive beings.

When facing menopause you should always try to maintain a positive attitude. Having a negative attitude can only affect women's health in a negative manner. Being positive about changes in your life can reduce the stress and help you live a long and happy life. A few ways of thinking positive about going through menopause and no longer being a reproductive woman is to look at it like you are starting over. When you were a child, your body made changes as to make you a reproductive person. Now your body is just reverting you back to what it was in your childhood in a matter of speaking.

Calcium is something that all women should make sure they get enough of before, during and after menopause. Foods like milk, cheese, bok choy, broccoli, soybeans, collard greens, turnip greens, tofu, soy milk, and almonds are all great ways to get the amount of calcium you need. Women's health is affected by low amounts of calcium and can lead to Osteoporosis later on in life. Osteoporosis is the condition of bones thinning that can lead to fractures. You should talk to your doctor about what treatments are available to relieve your symptoms of menopause and if there are any calcium substitutes to ensure that you are getting enough calcium in your diet.
