Nursing homes provide lodging, food and some support services for people who are elderly only; who are unable to care for themselves but who generally require 24 hour nursing services in a licensed nursing care facility. Typically, residents of nursing homes need help with almost all aspects of living such as: dressing, feeding, taking medications, and mobility. In a resting home, meals are prepared for the residents, linens are provided and clothes laundered. Residents of nursing homes receive assistance with their personal hygiene, with bathing and dressing, with medications, with making phone calls and with correspondence. They may also be offered assistance with obtaining transportation to appointments.
Nursing vary in some major ways. For example; nursing homes are required to have licensed nursing working on the premises at all times; dieticians are required to properly handle all nutritional needs, and Nursing homes do not offer financial help. Generally all of the residents that reside in a nursing home are paying a monthly or yearly amount of money to live there. Nursing homes generally house the elderly in specific. It is not common for non-seniors to reside in resting homes.
Another major difference between nursing homes and personal care homes is that residents of nursing homes are generally placed there as a final residence. Nursing homes are also designed to house people that require ling term care. If you are thinking f placing a loved one in a nursing home, there are some things that you must consider first. These are: the facilities appearance, both inside and out as this will let you get an idea of their standards; The odor should not be overwhelming; how do the other residents appear? Are they happy?; You check to see if the food appears edible, the temperature, and finally the staff. Don’t just watch how they treat you; watch how others treat them. If the staff is respectful, and seem happy to be around each other and are organized, all you need to do now is research their reputation.
